Debbie Lynn (Shaw) Downey

1953-2013

Debbie Lynn (Shaw) Downey was born June 14, 1953 in Ada, Oklahoma to Sanford and Alma (Addington) Shaw and joined her Heavenly Father Friday, September 27, 2013 in Muskogee, OK surrounded by her family.  She grew up in Konawa, OK and graduated from Konawa High School.  Debbie married the love of her life Homer Downey on October 9, 1970 in Vamoosa, OK, a marriage that lasted over 42 years.   She and Homer moved to Fort Gibson soon after and a career as the Nutritional Supervisor began for Fort Gibson Public Schools.  Debbie was a member of the Busy Baker Association and quite the sports fan, making sure to be at every sporting event her kids and grandkids were involved in.  She loved the Oklahoma State Cowboys and loved to shop, make crafts and camp.  She always had an ice chest on the porch full of ice for a camping trip.  Debbie loved to bowl, but jet skiing was her passion, having to be towed back from the middle of the lake on numerous occasions because she ran out of gas.  She was a member of Timothy Baptist Church and was quick to volunteer for anything that involved children, especially Vacation Bible School.  Debbie and Homer’s time spent riding their motorcycle was one thing she loved most.

Debbie leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband; Homer of their home, five children; Sheresa Downey and partner Jennifer Johnson of Tulsa,  OK, Tony Downey and wife Tina of Fort Gibson, OK, Sarah Downey-Adams and boyfriend Rube Blevins of Konawa, OK,  Timothy Downey and wife Leisha of Fort Gibson, OK, and Sharla Downey Hepler and husband Matthew of Claremore, OK, Charles Adams of Muskogee, OK,  ten grandchildren; Brandon Downey, Afton Adams, Shayla Adams, Trent Downey, Justice Johnson, Klaire Downey, Tate Hepler, C.J. Adams, Zane Hepler and Sveta Hepler, two sisters; Carla Dixon and Darla Kelley and husband Dean all of Konawa, OK, in-laws; Evelyn March of Glencoe, OK, Ruth Downey Duck and husband Roger of Konawa, OK, Rex Downey and wife Janice of Chickasha, OK, dearly beloved cousin; Marie Farris, other cousins, extended church and school family and many friends.     

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Sandra Shaw and Debbie Sue Wheeler, a nephew; Galand Kelley and in-laws Laura Marie Downey and Floyd Edward Downey.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2013 with the family receiving friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson.

A celebration of Debbie’s life will be held Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 10 A.M. at Timothy Baptist Church with Pastor Kelly Payne officiating.  Interment will follow at Citizens Cemetery in Fort Gibson with Brandon Hyslope, Shane Hyslope, Colby Hyslope, Stephen Kuestersteffen, Trent Neffendorf and Matthew Franklin serving as casket bearers.  Honorary casket bearers are Tyrel Brown, Scott Holuby, Erik Holuby, Brett Holuby, Jimmy Duck, Billy Dixon, James Michael Shaw and Frank Kelley.
