Hollis Logan Jr


Hollis Logan, Jr’s life began in Otaha, Oklahoma on September 12th, 1932.  On this blessed day our father was born to Hollis and Bessie Logan.  Hollis would be the fourth child of nine children.

Hollis grew up in New Hope, Oklahoma where he and his siblings attended school.  They were very close and continued to  be close throughout their lives.  Hollis was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church by Pastor W. E. McGill and continued to be a faithful member working as a trustee and singing in the brotherhood choir until his health rendered him unable to do so.

He met and married the love of his life, Gracie Mae Colbert.  After the passing of his mother at the young age of eighteen, Hollis and Gracie took on the responsibility of keeping his younger siblings together.  He became a father figure to his younger sisters and brothers.  They all worked hard to keep the family together.

To the union of Hollis and Gracie, they were blessed with nine children.  Hollis lived in the community of New Hope all his life.  He worked construction out of town through the week and would always be home on weekends to provide for his ever growing family.  He loved farming, bailing hay during the summer months, gardening, fishing with his son-in-law and picking wild onions with his wife.

Hollis was preceded in death by his mother and father, Hollis and Bessie Logan.  One brother, Roy Logan.  Four sisters, Essie, Erma Gene, Minerva and Janetta, and one daughter, Theodora.  He leaves to mourn his memory, his loving wife of sixty-two years, Gracie Mae Logan.  Children, Etta (Deforest) Lagrone, of Oktaha, OK, Edwin Logan, of Detroit, MI, Kenneth Logan, of Tulsa, OK, Hollis (Shabone) Logan, III, of Morris, OK, Gary (Sandra) Logan, of Oktaha, OK, Deborah (Raymond) Dan, of Checotah, OK, Michael ( Pamela) Logan, of Warner, OK, and Steven (Paula) Logan, of Bristow, Ok.  Three special nieces that he helped raise, Queen Esther Colbert, of Oklahoma CIty, OK, Jeanie (Marvin) Craig and Glorietta Colbert, all of Muskpgee, Ok.  His siblings, Franklin (Juliet) Logan, Theodore (Clarice) Logan and Ollie (Ellis) Lawrence.  Sister-in-law, Rhoda Spigner.  Two brothers-in-law, Henry Brown, Sr and Vernon Walker, Sr.  One aunt, Etta Newton and one uncle, Gabel Logan and as well as nineteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren.  He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who all loved him dearly.  Homegoing services for Hollis will be held Saturday, October 26th, 2013, 11:00 AM at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Logan, Pastor.  Rev. Milton Colbert, Pastor of Shiloh Baptit Church, Wichita, Kansas will officiate.  He will be laid to rest in New Hope Community Cemetery.  Visitation hours are today from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM.  Services are under the direction of Ragsdale Funeral Center.
