James Lealon Johnston

1929 - 2013

My daddy, James Lealon Johnston, 84 year old Warner resident went to be with our Lord and my mom on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in Gore. My dad, Lealon, was born on Sunday, April 30, 1929 to James Emmitt and Myrtie (Waldron) Johnston in Dover, Arkansas. He was the baby of the family and had two sisters Jean and Gayle. He was a loving and hardworking husband and father and was married to my mom, Ruby, for over 60 years before her death in 2010. Daddy attended school at Webbers Falls and was raised around the Webbers Falls and Warner area. Daddy retired from the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Department in 1988. Anyone who knew my parents saw the special bond they had and were aware that anytime you saw one, you saw both of them. My mom was always in that patrol car and by his side every chance she had.

Daddy was preceded in death by his wife, my mom, Ruby (Lindsey) Johnston; one son, Gary Don Johnston; parents, James and Myrtie (Waldron) Johnston; sister and brother-in-law, Gayle and Ken Cameron; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and John Rupp. He is lovingly survived by his daughter, Shirley Edwards and husband Dewayne of Warner; granddaughter, Liane Chambers and husband Justin of Warner; grandson, Jay Edwards, U.S. Navy/San Diego, CA, son, James William and wife Gayle Johnston of Okmulgee; grandson, Kenneth Johnston of Tulsa; grandson Johnny and wife Jill Johnston of Warner and their two children, Johnathon and Charity. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and Scottie Standifer; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank and Barbara Lindsey; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Anna Lindsey along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to thank the Gore Nursing Center and Hope Hospice for the compassionate, loving care you gave to both of my parents. I cannot express how much their love and care for my parents meant to my family.

Viewing will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2013 from 1-4 PM at Garrett Family Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, August 26, 2013 at Warner Memorial Cemetery with Sam Dunn officiating. You may share online condolences with Lealon’s family
