Helen H. Robertson

1936 - 2013

Helen H. Robertson, age 77, went home to the Lord at 5:15 p.m. Monday July 1, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Helen was born on June 29, 1936 in Council Hill, Okla. the daughter of the late Perry and Ruth (Myers) Hicks. She attended Council Hill High School where she was an excellent basketball player, graduating in 1954. Following graduation she married Ewin E. Robertson on May 29, 1954. They moved to Duenweg, Mo. in 1958. She enrolled at Missouri Southern State College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career at Emerson Elementary School for the Joplin R-8 School District, retiring from Cecil Floyd Elementary in 1995. She was a founding member of the 26th & Connecticut Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading and was a member of a local book club. She was an accomplished artist and an excellent cook. Most of all she loved taking care of her family.

Helen’s family includes; her husband of fifty-nine years Ewin E. Robertson, Joplin; two daughters and son-in-laws; Pam Houk and husband Steve, Joplin, and Kim Woodard and husband Bruce, Joplin; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harold Hicks and wife Kay, Texarkanna, Tx., Gibson Hicks, Tulsa, Okla., and David Hicks and wife Patty, Bixby, Okla.; and numerous extended family members.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the 26th & Connecticut Church of Christ. Jake King Minister will officiate. Entombment will be in a private mausoleum at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Mason-Woodard Chapel.
