Kenneth “Waldo” Robertson

1925 - 2012

Kenneth “Waldo” Robertson, 87 year old lifetime McIntosh County resident, died peacefully, on Monday, October 8, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Monday, June 22, 1925 in Pindall, Arkansas to Ott and Goldie Dickey Robertson. He moved with his family to Checotah in 1938. Waldo graduated from Onapa High School and began working for Leo Williams. Waldo married the love of his life, Lorene Hallum, on Saturday, November 15, 1947 in Eufaula, OK.  In 1948 he went to work at the Koch Gin, later becoming the ranch superintendent for Koch Brothers. Waldo went to work for County Commissioner Marvin James in 1975 serving for over 25 years. While working hard for the county in 1990, Waldo became County Commissioner for District 1, serving 2 terms faithfully. Waldo served more than 30 years on the McIntosh County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, serving as president most of those years. He also served on the County Cattleman’s Association, Appaloosa Horse Association, Onapa Rural Water Association and the Onapa Fire Department. He and Lorene owned and operated a cattle ranch, and he also custom bailed hay for many residents in Checotah and the surrounding communities. Waldo enjoyed fishing, hunting and was known by many as a great gardener, who would grow vegetables just to give away. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. His parents and an infant sister preceded him in death. Waldo is survived by the love of his life, Lorene; his brother, Weldon Robertson and his wife Janet of Alma, Arkansas; four sisters-in-law, Bonnie Higbee of McAlester, Gertrude Kusler of Warner, Dortha Duke and her husband David of Canadian and Verna Harding and her husband Wayne of Del City. A very special granddaughter, Tammy Lawhorn and her mother, Arla Kay Chase and her husband David. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 841125 Dallas, TX 75284-1125. Viewing for Waldo will be 9 AM to 8 PM Wednesday, October 10, 2012 with his family greeting friends from 5PM-7PM. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, October 11, 2012 in the Garrett Chapel with Joe Harding, officiating. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett. Warren Robertson, Brent Robertson, Donnie Kusler, Joe Harding, Jeff Higbee, Jeremy Higbee, Kenny Kusler and Cecil Kusler, Jr. will serve as Casket Bearers.
