Cardelia D. White

1935 - 2013

On September 20, 1935, in the small community of Boynton, Oklahoma, Cardelia Daisy Brown came into the lives of Levi and Mazetta  Brown. She accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized into the membership of Cherryville Baptist Church where H. P. Anthony was her pastor. She never moved her membership and was a diligent dedicated and devoted member to the church where she served in various capacities as “Mother of the Church”, finance committee, Pastor’s Aide, Mission President, Senior Usher and where ever she was needed. She remained active and faithful until her health prevented her from attending. She often said “If  you don’t go to church, you might miss something”. After graduating from Wheatley High School, she furthered her education by attending and graduating from Connors State College, Warner, with an Associates Degree in Science and Northeastern State University, Tahlequah, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Services and Criminal Justice.

Cardelia’s work experience began in 1959, with her first job as a provider. She worked as a teacher’s aide, Community Center Coordinator and Youth Guidance Specialist at the Oklahoma School For the Blind. After twenty-six years of dedicated service, she finally retired at the age of seventy-four. Cardelia was active in her community and social service. She actively supported the Boynton Alumni Association, Boynton Historical Society, Sister’s On A Mission, The Birthday Club and Housewives  of Muskogee County Club (Senior Citizen Nutrition Program).

Cardelia met a handsome young man named Thello White and on September 17th, 1953, the two were married. To that union three children, Thello, Belva and Aretha were born. They were married for thirty-seven years until his death in August of 1990.

Awaiting Cardelia’s heavenly arrival are her husband, Thello White, parents, Levi and Marzetta, Brown. Two sisters, Monzola Minor and Frankie Stoudamire and two brothers, Alphonso and Ivory Brown.Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory and celebrate her homegoing are one son, Thello L. White, Muskogee, OK and two daughters, Belva L. White, McAlester, OK,  and Aretha D. White, Okmulgee, OK and “adopted” daughter, Carolyn Green, Muskogee, OK. Five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one sister Loretha Smith, Las Vegas, NV and one brother, Nathaniel Brown, Oakland, CA, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

The going home celebration for Cardelia will be held Saturday, January 12th, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at the A.G. Yerger Community Center, Boynton,  with Rev. Leroy Walker, Sr., Pastor, Rayfield Baptist Church, officiating and Rev. Lacey K. Johnson, Pastor, Cherryville Baptist Church, will deliver the eulogy. She will be laid to rest on Monday, January 14th, 2013. 11 a.m. in Ft. Gibson National Cemetery. Hours of visitation will be today from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
