Doyle Wayne Coleman

1937 - 2013

— Doyle Wayne Coleman, 75 year old lifetime Checotah resident, passed away peacefully y, Friday evening in Tulsa surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Monday, November 8, 1937 in Checotah to Duncan and Elizabeth Ramsey Coleman.

Doyle attended Central High School until the 8th grade then went to school in Checotah through the 9th grade. At 15 he began working at the Stockyards, first as a waiter in the restaurant then helping work cattle in the Stockyard. During his vacation from the Stockyards at age 16, he went to work in Loveland, CO working pipeline and never looked back.

On Tuesday, November 25, 1956 he married the love of his life, Nona Winkle, in Stigler making their home in Checotah. Doyle continued working pipeline until he retired at the age of 61 in 1998 as a Pipeline Superintendent. He then began working cattle full time.

Next to his family and grandchildren, he loved breading race horses. Doyle enjoyed wolf hunting and bailing hay was his passion. One of the highlights in his life was watching all of his grandchildren play sports, never missing an event. Doyle’s word was his bond. He was strong, tough and fair and was known by his family as a loving husband, dad and grandpa. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Bradley Doyle Coleman in 1992; four brothers, Walter, Donald, Troy and Roy.

Doyle is lovingly survived by his wife Nona of the home; sons, Bryan Coleman and his wife Sandy, Brent Coleman and his friend Kasey McKenzie all of Checotah; five grandchildren, Heath Coleman and his wife Holly of Edmond, Kyle Coleman of Checotah, Tyler Coleman of Muskogee, Jake Coleman, Bradi Elizabeth Coleman both of Checotah. Also surviving is one brother, Glen Coleman and his wife Ellen of Checotah and four sisters, Earlene Chambers and Murlene Coleman both of Checotah, Pauline Coleman and John Morton of Muskogee and Diane Smith and her husband Larry of Checotah; many nieces, nephews, other extended family and a lifetime of friends.

Viewing will be 9:00 am – 8:00 pm, Monday, February 11, 2013 at Garrett Funeral Home with Doyle’s family greeting friends from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Checotah with Reverend Steve Dennis officiating. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in Twin Grove Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett.

Dyton Coleman, Clarence Coleman, Tommy Coleman, Eddie Coleman, Jeff Coleman, Kevin Smith, Cecil Winkle and Oliver Chambers will serve as Casket Bearers. Heath Coleman, Kyle Coleman, Tyler Coleman, Jake Coleman and Bradi Elizabeth Coleman will honor their grandpa as Honorary Casket Bearers.
