Rena M. Dennis-Cornelius, 79, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, entered Heaven’s gates Monday, February 11, 2013. She was born December 29, 1933 in Watson, Oklahoma to Laymon Cephus Hicks and Sophina Ashalintubbi Hicks. She met and later married Elmer William Dennis on October 3, 1953 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Rena graduated from Sequoyah High School in 1953 and furthered her education by attending Indian Capital Technology Center where she obtained her LPN license. She worked as an LPN for Muskogee Regional Medical Center for several years from which she later retired.
Rena attended Church Central from 1965 until her death where she served our Lord in various ways, especially the Women’s Ministries. She loved the big elm shade trees and the pine trees from back east; as they reminded her of her childhood. She also enjoyed flowers, bird watching, knitting, and spending time with her family. Rena was a proud member of the Choctaw Tribe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two sons, Elmer Deegan Dennis in 1964 and Paul Richard Dennis in 2006; her first husband, Elmer William Dennis in 1986; her second husband, William Cornelius in April 2012; her sister, Virginia Hicks; and her brother, Houston Hicks.
Rena is survived by her two daughters, Susie Fuller and husband Jim of Okmulgee, OK, Shirley Dunn and husband Michael of Muskogee; five grandchildren, Kiah, Dennis, Hunter, Jason, and Katie; two sisters, Mary Teague and Dora Williams, both of Frederick, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, and other members of the family.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Rena will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 15, 2013 at Church Central in Muskogee with Rev. Guy Parrish officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Johnny Teehee, Jim Teehee, Martin Teehee, Jim Fuller, Michael Dunn, and Dennis Dunn serving as pallbearers.
Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematory, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, Oklahoma.
