Hazel Louise Winkle Sullivan

1921 - 2013

— Hazel Louise Winkle Sullivan, 91 year old former Checotah resident, passed away peacefully in Shawnee on Friday, March 1, 2013. She was born on Tuesday, March 15, 1921 in Checotah to Phillip and Myrtle Louise Bomberger Winkle. Hazel grew up in the Checotah area, attending school at Central High. She met, fell in love and later married Charles Edgar Sullivan on Friday December 24, 1937 in the back of Palmer’s Grocery Store in Checotah. After their marriage, they moved to California where she became a homemaker and mother. In 1950, they moved back to Checotah, later returning to California for a brief time, finally settling in Checotah. In the late 80’s they moved to Okmulgee, then to Shawnee where they made their home. Hazel was a wonderful wife, loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed working in her flower garden, sewing and reading her bible. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Sullivan on Sunday, June 22, 1997; five brothers and one sister. She is lovingly survived by her children, Joanna Faye Fox of Iowa, Patricia L. Ramsey and her husband Jack, Charles Roger Sullivan and his wife Sandra all of Shawnee; 8 grandchildren, Charles Duane Fox, Bobby Joe Fox and his wife Marilyn, Pamela Jean McFadden, Antonio Martinez, Denise Castiglia and her husband Tim, Tim G. Sullivan and his wife Sherry, Chad E. Sullivan, Roger D. Sullivan and his wife Lorie; 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 sisters-in-law, Faye Winkle, Alice Sullivan Miner and numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and a lifetime of friends. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at First Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Ron Forrest officiating. Interment will follow in Council Hill Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett. Tim Sullivan, Chad Sullivan, Roger Sullivan, Ethan Sullivan, Dalton Sullivan and Doak Wishon will serve as Casket Bearers.
