Thomas Edward “Eddie” Pittman

1930 - 2012

Thomas Edward “Eddie” Pittman, 82, a lifelong reside of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012 in Muskogee with his loving family at his side. He was born July 30, 1930 in Muskogee to Henry Pittman and Mary Howard Pittman.  Eddie grew up in Muskogee where he attended school.  He graduated from Muskogee Central High School with the class of 1949.  Eddie furthered his education by attending Muskogee Junior College from which he graduated in 1962. He later attended Northeastern State University graduating in 1969 with a Bachelor’s degree.  Eddie also was a member of the National Guard from which he received an Honorable Medical Discharge.  He met and later married the love of his life, Joyce Marlene Adamson, on August 30, 1957 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Muskogee.  Eddie worked for Ralston Purina as an accountant from 1952 – 1962.  He later became the owner of Sid’s Pawn Shop from which he retired in 1998.  Eddie’s hobbies included golfing, reading, and gardening.  

In the spring of 1979, Eddie was saved and baptized at Eastern Heights Baptist Church.  He served as Sunday School teacher for many years, as well as a lay minister, and also in many other capacities while attending Eastern Heights Baptist Church.  

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary “Peggye” Pittman; his sisters, Yvonne Lenon and Mary Louise Pilgreen; his brother, H. A. Pittman.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce, of the home; his daughters, Marcia Pittman Guthrie and husband Jimmy of Wainwright, Teresa Pittman Kinnard of Broken Arrow; six grandchildren, Holly Guthrie Jackson and husband Jeff of Oktaha, Heidi Guthrie Wiedel and husband Jimbo of Muskogee, Haley Guthrie of Wainwright, Lindsey Kinnard of New York City, Landon Kinnard and special friend Jenna McQuigg of Tulsa, Lauren Kinnard McEntire of Broken Arrow; eight great grandchildren, Lane, Lake, and Emme Jackson, Kirsten and Bo Wiedel, Anna, Gabriel, and Callen McEntire.

The family would like to express a very special “Thank You” to Eastgate Village and Hometown Hospice for the excellent care Eddie received.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Southeast Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Miller officiating.  Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery with Jimmy Guthrie, Jeff Jackson, Jimbo Wiedel, Landon Kinnard, Kenny Jackson, and J. B. Bass serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Joy Sunday School Class of Southeast Baptist Church.

Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematory, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, Oklahoma.  Condolences may be sent to the family at
