1933 - 2014

Funeral services for Joe Gist, 80, of Fort Gibson, OK, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at the Church of Christ in Fort Gibson with Dan Rouse officiating. Pallbearers will be Danny Gist, Bodee Gist, Pake Gist, Bryan Center, Brian Karnes, and Trace Ingram. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Wilson, Randy Branscum, Robert Hutchins, Mark Young, and Henry Petree. Burial will be in Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of Millsap Funeral Service of Fort Gibson.

Joe was born July 21, 1933 at Hollis, OK, the son of B. L. and Mildred (Pumroy) Gist and died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Fort Gibson. He married Joyce Springer on June 21, 1957 in Quannah, TX. Joe served his country in the U. S. Army and later went on to serve his state for 22 years as a highway patrol officer. He was a member of the Fort Gibson Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce, of the home; three children, David Gist and wife, Lavina, of Fort Gibson, Tony Gist and wife, Brenda, of Purdon, TX, Jerry Gist and wife, Dee, of Fort Gibson; six grandchildren, Danny Gist and wife, Cathy, Dana Center and husband, Bryan, Bodee Gist, Shelby Gist, Pake Gist, and Peyton Gist; four great-grandchildren, Gracie Gist, Jake, Kolby, and Trace Ingram; brother-in-law, Melvin Springer; and sister-in-law, Donna Springer.
