Willie Mae Kennedy Harden

1919 - 2008

Willie Mae Kennedy Harden, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend went home to be with her Savior, July 14, 2008 in Checotah, Oklahoma. She was born September 6, 1919 in Big Cedar, Oklahoma to Isaac (Ike) and Maude (Thompson) Kennedy. Willie Mae graduated from Moyer High School in 1929 and attended Southeastern College in Durant, Ok. She married the love of her life, Rassie Harden, August 31, 1940 and celebrated 67 years of marriage last August. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Checotah. She was a nurse in Antlers, Ok. for twenty years. She loved sewing and gardening and was well known for her beautiful vegetable gardens from which she shared with family, neighbors, and friends. She and Rassie loved to travel and spend time with family and playing card games with friends. One of the joys of her later years was the arrival of her great, great granddaughter, Matyson whom she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin brother Willard Kennedy and a sister Ernestine Bishop and Brother-in-law Gene Harden. She is survived by her husband, Rassie of the home, one daughter, Neoma Buckley and husband Charles of Checotah; two grandchildren, Rocky Buckley and wife Penny of Keys, Ok. and Kimberly Buckley of Tulsa. Great Grandchildren Rebecca Laney and husband Matt of Ft. Gibson and Chandra James of Keys, Ok.; One great-great granddaughter, Matyson Laney of Ft. Gibson; Two sisters-in-law, Betty Hefner and husband Jack of Checotah and Mabel Harden of Checotah; nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends. Family will greet friends 6-8pm Wednesday July 16 at Garrett Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 17, 2008 at First Baptist Church of Checotah with Reverend Steve Dennis and Dr. Chester Ward officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
