THE PEOPLE SPEAK: Muskogee museum could have lot to offer

I’m sure I’m not the first person to suggest this, but maybe I’ll be the guy to get something started.

Realizing we have a Five Civilized Tribe Museum and realizing how very small and poorly located it is, why isn’t someone working on a concept to bring to Muskogee a first-class Indian museum?

We definitely need the attraction and the Indians need their story told. Muskogee and the surrounding area owes much of its history and heritage to the various tribes that were forced to this area.

I believe it would behoove us to celebrate their history and heritage as both the Indian people and the city of Muskogee would both benefit.

Not only could we document the history of the Five Civilized Tribes, but also the other tribes that were placed in Oklahoma.

Make it a state museum. You can’t tell me we couldn’t get the various tribes to contribute large sums of money, especially with their new-found wealth derived from their gambling operations, with matching funds from the state and federal governments.

Maybe that new, young mayor can get something going. We need to be more proactive, creative and ambitious in this community if we want to make it a better place to live and a more attractive place to visit.

By the way, whatever happened to the amphitheater that was suppose to be built at the new Arkansas River harbor site?
