InBev, a Belgian-based company, agreed last week to purchase Anheuser for $52 billion. We live in a global market, and American companies can play the same takeover game, too, and they have in the past. But again bigger is not necessarily better in terms of management, products or services. In fact, as companies get bigger, they seem to lose their focus, which usually gets shifted from product and service to the bottom line of their ledgers. That’s probably why the micro-brewing industry is gaining popularity. According to a report last year, craft/micro beer sales grew 17.8 percent in U.S. supermarkets in 2006 compared to the beer industry, whose gains amounted to only 2.4 percent.
