Support local businesses after storm

We trumpet “shop local” on this page throughout the year — especially during the holidays — but as we continue to thaw out from last week’s winter blast, it is even more important.

Nearly all local businesses were affected by the storm. Some were closed, and those that remained open lost business because many customers weren’t able to traverse in the conditions.

The storm disrupted numerous activities — activities that help bolster local businesses.

We encourage everyone to make Saturday a “Keep It Local” day. Attend the parade and then do some of your Christmas shopping here. Maybe pick up some holiday sweets at St. Joseph’s 12th annual Cookie and Candy Sale after.

Attend the Holiday Open House at Three Rivers Museum or go ice skating at Honor Heights Park. Check out Christmas Alive at First Church of the Nazarene, Muskogee Little Theatre’s performance of “It’s a Wonderful Life” or the Christmas Open House at The Gallery downtown.

It’s a busy weekend chock full of activities. Let’s make sure it’s a busy weekend for our local merchants, too.
