THE PEOPLE SPEAK — Find out how to help these ministries

Each year ministries devoted to providing for the many needs of persecuted Christians worldwide publish information pertaining to their respective ministries. The ministries include, for example, Voice of the Martyrs, located in Bartlesville, Oklahoma;  Open doors, Barnabas aid, China aid, religious freedom coalition, American Center for Law and Justice. The needs include supplying humanitarian aid along with medical care, financial aid to families destitute for homes, employment and schooling.

The 2014 World Watch List of the top 50 countries where Christians face the most persecution is available from Open Doors site, which also identifies  specific  prayer concerns for each nation. North Korea, for the past 12 years ranked as the most difficult country in the world to be a Christian, promotes a god-like worship of its leader, Kim Jong-Un, leaving no room for any other religion. There are approximately 50,000-70,000 Christians imprisoned in labor camps. Many Christians are summarily  executed, given life-long sentences, starvation, torture along with punishment to their families. They dare not share their faith with anyone else for fear of being  punished, so they worship in secret.

Somalia is No. 2 as it is under Muslim government. Surveillance is conducted to root out converts from Islam to Christianity. Christians also worship in secret for fear of terrorist group al-Shabaab which is responsible for devastating assaults on Christians — pastors, church buildings, and individuals in congregations. The government strives to impose the restrictive form of Sharia law on all of its citizens.

Syria has jumped to third place, up from 11th in 2013 and 36th in 2012. Syria has more Christians martyred for their faith than any country on the watch list.  New additions to the list are Sudan, Central African Republic, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. All of these countries are under the Islamic domination of Sharia law.
