Make festival guests feel welcome

Muskogee residents need to put their best foot forward when welcoming visitors over the month-long Azalea Festival.

The festival is one of the cornerstones of our tourism trade for the year.

Many people come to Muskogee to attend one of several April events  — including the festival parade and the Exchange Club’s Chili and BBQ Cook-off.

Many people will form an opinion of Muskogee based on one visit per year.

We need to make each visitor feel welcome and provide a good environment for our guests.

That is a two-fold process.

The first is just taking the time to commit to making Muskogee a more beautiful place for April.

We should try to do this every day of the year, but it is especially important when we have so many guests in town.

Use this week to clean up your yards and any areas that seem neglected to you.

It will make a difference in how we are perceived.

We should also offer our Sunday-best hospitality.

So many times a person’s perception of an area can be crystallized in a smile or courteous behavior.

• Welcome our guests.

• Make them feel at home.

• Smile.

• Help them with directions and suggestions for the best places to shop or eat.

Muskogee has a lot to offer — perhaps the most valuable is the character of our people.

Each citizen can make a difference.

Show our festival guests who we really are.
