THE PEOPLE SPEAK – Make people pay price for pet abuse, neglect

— The vicious cycle of a town that for some reason can’t put the animals in the priority they should be creates a nightmare for all the efforts that shelters, rescuers, fosters and volunteers work for. Seems so simple and maybe it’s not, but you have to try.

It’s very obvious that as you drive down many parts of this town that there are animals tied up, no shelter, or have any food or water. That should be a large fine and the animal abuse laws that are already in effect should be enforced. No spay or neuter requirements in Muskogee, which should be a top priority. Adopting out animals with no requirements for the adoptee to follow and abide by, fenced yard, food, shelter, vet care. No fenced yard for dogs adopted means that the dog will probably be picked up at least one time if not more and brought to the shelter again. This means time and money spent how many times?

Fines should be given to those that abuse, don’t adhere to the requirements set in the adoption. Money can be made by writing tickets to those that don’t obey the abuse laws. That money in turn can be put back into the shelter for making this town pro-active toward all the animals. I myself have sat and watched no tickets being written to people that lock animals in hot cars, set up in parking lots with no license or permission to be selling dogs on the property, that should be fines. Enforce the laws we have, write tickets, and put the money back in to where it is needed at the shelter.

Make mandatory spay and neuter laws Mr. J. Gregory Buckley, City Manager. Get with the program Muskogee, enforce the laws in place and save the lives of helpless animals. Make people pay the price if they neglect and abuse.

One more question, how many tickets are written each month involving Muskogee animals?
