THE PEOPLE SPEAK — Speaking in favor of the death penalty

In Virginia Jenner’s letter of March 26, she spoke against the death penalty. The Phoenix’s March 27 editorial did the same. May the opposition now speak?

Jenner apparently thinks that the Constitutions bans executions. This is just another gross distortion of what the largely God-fearing, if not Christian, founding fathers intended the Constitution to say. To hear radical liberals tell it, the founders were more liberal than them. They claim the Constitution was meant to promote and protect deviant sex, abortion, etc. Dollars to doughnuts, all of the founding fathers would’ve used the death penalty on the radical liberals.

More important, though, is what God thinks. His position is quite clear in both the Old and New Testaments (Genesis 9:6, Romans 13:4). If you murder someone, you’re to be executed by the government, He makes no exceptions for age, race, gender, insanity or any of the other myriad excuses people use nowadays. Execution was also prescribed for a few other things such as gross sexual crimes (Leviticus 20, Romans 1:32), and cursing one’s parents (Leviticus 20:9). Incidentally, did you know Christ himself gave his approval of God’s execution laws in Matthew 15:4? Bet you won’t hear that in most modern churches.

The Phoenix stated that execution hasn’t been proved to deter violent crime. Ecclesiastes 8:11 says when sentence for a crime isn’t executed speedily, it encourages people to behave wickedly. Sounds like our court system that lets murders go free, be institutionalized, or sit on death row for decades. I promise you, if government would speedily carry out executions it would deter crime.

Jenner concluded by saying the blood of Oklahoma’s executed is on all its citizens’ hands. I agree there is much blood on Oklahoma’s and America’s hands, but for a different reason. Numbers 35:33 says innocent shed blood defiles nations, and nations can only be cleansed by execution of murderers. Since only the tiniest percentage of America’s murderers are executed. I’d say we’re pretty defiled with blood.

Why are liberals like Obama professedly “troubled” by vicious killers’ executions, but so untroubled by, and rabid supporters of, innocent infants’ abortion?
