Legion post honors fallen soldier

— A new American Legion Post will bear the name of an area soldier who died while in the service of his country.

Naming American Legion Post 403 for Spc. Joshua Seals, a National Guard member, should be applauded.

Seals, a 2008 Porter High School graduate, died Aug. 16, 2011, from noncombat-related injuries while serving in Paktika province, Afghanistan.

“All our American Legion posts are named after someone outstanding in the military,” said Pat Davis, a member of the post involved in its organization. “It’s a good way of honoring him and honoring our veterans from the area.”

Until a structure can be built, Post 403 will hold meetings at the Oktaha Town Hall.

The post has the names of about 500 veterans who live within 35 miles of Oktaha.

Those veterans will need a permanent structure.

These men and women served our country throughout the years and deserve our support.
