Don’t miss Smithsonian exhibits

We should consider ourselves lucky that Muskogee has been picked to host a nationwide traveling exhibit.

The Smithsonian Institution’s Traveling Exhibition Services will bring the exhibit to the Five Civilized Tribes Museum in the summer of 2015. The “Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America” exhibit will reflect the connection between sports and American culture.

The exhibit is a part of the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street program. It will travel all across the United States as an initiative to engage communities to remember their historical societies and culture.

This is an exciting event, and everyone should take advantage of this great opportunity.

If you can’t wait that long to see a piece of the Smithsonian, Tahlequah is currently hosting a different exhibit.

The “Native Words, Native Warriors” temporary exhibit from the Smithsonian Institution is on display through April 7 on the second floor of  Northeastern State University’s John Vaughan Library.

It is devoted to World War I and II Native American code talkers and veterans from more than a dozen different tribes.

The Smithsonian is America’s museum. It’s rare to get to see a part of it in this area.

Take advantage of these chances.
