THE PEOPLE SPEAK — Elect principled, godly leaders

For the past 63 years, on the first Thursday in May, the National Day of Prayer (NDP) Task Force facilitates several events on Capitol Hill with nationally known speakers who endeavor to call our nation to prayer.  This event draws hundreds of thousands by in-person and tuned in live via video stream to hear and see speakers from every branch of government, prominent ministries and businesses share encouraging and convicting messages.  Many speakers’ presentations compellingly emphasized  our need for individual repentance and  humbly obeying the God of the Bible.

There were 43,000 similar gatherings  coast to coast and  200 nations participated in this annual event  (South Korea, India, Australia) where event facilitators mobilized thousands to fast and pray for this nation.

The Muskogee Patriot Townhall meeting that evening was opened with  a prayer by a member: “Our Heavenly Father, we thank you this evening for the freedom we enjoy as American citizens to assemble peacefully and work together to elect godly leaders.  In Your Word, You say, ‘When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked man rules, the people groan.’ (Prov. 29:2). Lord, we are indeed groaning.  We have leaders who despise Your law and violate their oath to uphold the Constitution. Knowing no rule of right but might, their oath-breaking, self-serving laws destroy our lives, liberty and property.  While we despair, Oh God, at the thought of losing our precious freedoms, at the same time we are so blessed and grateful that we  —  unlike so many nations in the world — still enjoy extraordinary political stability, the same enlightened Constitution for over 220 years and a powerful tradition of the Rule of Law, that allow free speech and free elections.  But not forever, if we do not become informed, motivated enough to fight for these freedom. ... Lord, please, help us this evening to ... resolve to  give of our resources to elect godly, principled, honorable leaders. ... We pray in the name of our Lord ... Jesus Christ.”
