Give Girl Scouting a chance

Two recent stories highlight the importance of Girl Scouts.

A story in today’s Fort Gibson Times details the Gold Award project by  Whitney Stroup.

Stroup, a recent Fort Gibson High School graduate, is trying to help the Catholic charity Infant Supply Closet solicit donations for infant, toddler and booster-size car seats.

Infant Supply Closet provides goods to needy families with infants or toddlers.

The Gold Award is the highest honor in Girl Scouts.

One of the qualifications for earning a Gold Award is solving a problem for today and in the future.

Stroup is seeking — and would be very happy with — one-time donations.

But she is also asking people, organizations and businesses to pledge to buy one new car seat per year.  Those pledges would help solve the problem in the long term.

We applaud Stroup and her commitment to the Infant Supply Closet.

Andrea Chancellor said last week she would like to get more girls involving in Scouting.

“We have several programs through a grant that we received to go and visit with girls throughout the Muskogee area, talk about Girl Scouting and introduce them to some of the programs that we do,” said Chancellor, marketing and membership executive for Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma.

We strongly encourage girls to give scouting a chance.
