Thank you Saunders for your service

It’s fitting that Muriel Saunders has a “Thank You” on this page, thanking the public for her time on the Muskogee Public Schools Board of Education.

Saunders was defeated earlier this week in the election after two decades in office. Saunders said she was seeking a fifth term because “there are still things I want to see occur I am enthusiastic about.”

She served in her office well, and she will be missed on the board.

She won’t be missed entirely, however. She plans to stay active in the community and still support the school system.

“I’ll just find something else to do. I’m sure there are other things to do that are of benefit to the community,” she said.

That just shows her character, and it does not come as a surprise.

Congratulations to Bivin for winning a spot on the school board. Bivin’s career in education — as a teacher, coach and administrator — allows him an opportunity to serve on the board in a unique fashion.

The former Muskogee High School principal said he is ready to work toward “progressive change” in Muskogee Public Schools.

It’s clear he has a passion for education and will bring that to his service on the board.

Bivin, and the other challenger, Dorian Dyer, deserve praise for running a good race.
