THE PEOPLE SPEAK — Our nation can be restored to greatness

— According to a Pew Research Center poll taken in 2009 and somewhat revised in 2011, Americans change their religious affiliations early and often.

The Pew Survey in October 2012 revealed one-fifth of the U.S. and one-third of adults under 30 are religiously unattached.

Many among the 46 million unaffiliated Americans claim to be spiritual in some way: “More than half say they feel a deep connection with nature and the earth (58 percent), while more than one-third call themselves “spiritual” but not “religious” (37 percent). One in five (21 percent) say they pray daily; to whom was not stated.

The “I’ll do it my way” religion is the result of situational ethics, the self-centered heresy of the 1960s that cast off moral restraints of biblical injunctions and societal mores.

Many today ignore what are called “absolutes” in the interest of what seems “good” to them in any situation, making the individual person the ultimate arbiter of his/her decisions and actions.

Recent presidential campaign efforts and now the multitude of scandals of recent vintage and others of long ago now coming to light have given We, The People lavish doses of blatant lies.

The practice of lying, deceptions of all kinds, and massive evidence of personal, corporate and government corruption without any consequences of wrongful doings is rapidly the ugly staple of a lifestyle based on a secular worldview.

Sacrificing truth for self or group advantage is unacceptable if a society expects to survive. This lifestyle is recorded (Judges 21:35) as “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” Israel had turned its back on God, each doing what he deemed “right,” which led to chaos, exile, bondage, and national demise. Today, our self-serving lifestyle and God-defiant actions are “the norm.” If We, The People heed “The Harbinger,” a best-selling book, repent, personally return to God and obey His commands, we will be rescued from a destructive lifestyle. If we are teachable, our nation can be restored to greatness.
