Help others this holiday season

As the last bit of turkey is turned into leftovers, we turn our attention to Christmas.

But before leaving Thanksgiving for another year, we should take one more look back on all that we have to be thankful.

We should also remember all those who are less fortunate.

Life can be difficult.

The holidays are especially rough on some families — those who for no fault of their own are struggling to meet life’s daily demands.

This season gives us many opportunities to give just a little to make someone’s life a whole lot easier.

The Salvation Army and the Cherokee Nation have Angel Trees to help children and seniors this year.

The Salvation Army also has red kettles outside many area stores seeking a little change.

There are toy runs and Toys for Tots programs.

There are food pantries that need restocking.

There many opportunities to teach children that giving is just as rewarding as receiving.

Volunteer this season.

There are times in everyone’s lives when just a little help would have gone a long way.

Even a smile as you meet strangers on the street might be just what that person needed to feel better.

Don’t get so caught up in your life that you can’t reach out now and again.
