THE PEOPLE SPEAK — Volunteer would have served as facilitator

The editorial opinion published in the March 16 Phoenix addressed reservations regarding the expenditure of $14,000 plus expenses authorized by our new City Manager Howard Brown for a facilitator to work with our citizens over a two-day conference.

That’s right, $14,000 plus expenses for two days. I called the Phoenix staff to confirm these facts.

I would offer my services to “facilitate” this two-day conference – for free!

My career includes several years employment by one of the top 10 major oil companies in the country.  During that time I was fully trained in Conference Leadership and Formal Presentations in leading diverse groups with different interests to a common resolution. I used this training successfully throughout my 30 year career.

I know, after living in Muskogee for the past 20 years, there are far more competent people than I from various corporations, family owned companies, and retirees who would willingly “facilitate” this meeting.

Perhaps it would behoove Mr. Brown, our new city manager, to become acquainted with and explore the local talent available in our city.  After all, this should be a major part of his job.

Again, I offer my services for free. Who else in this community will stand up and join me?
