THE PEOPLE SPEAK — Search your heart regarding guns

It is almost incomprehensible that our beloved country, our homeland, our USA, has come to the point of being dragged down by certain people whose sole motivation/primary interest is to concentrate on a quintessential inanimate object: The gun.

Bows and arrows, knives, spears, swords, axes, clubs, sling-shots, or even brass knuckles don’t even warrant a footnote in the history of weapons. According to some records, there are at least 180 kinds of guns. Where is the reason, the logic, the common sense in that many guns?

There are hunting regulations to harvest some animals from becoming too numerous. There are sanctioned competitions for shooting paper targets and clay pigeons as well as events like the Olympics. Guns helped early settlers and pioneers provide food for their families. Guns have played a role in the defeat of warmongers and dictators. By the way, this writer owns a 22/410 caliber combination gun to protect pets, property, and life, if need be.

The Second Amendment was only intended for protection during the Revolutionary War. You, the reader, must search your own heart and soul as to the merits of gun ownership. What will be your destination?
