Shooting animals for the sake of killing them is wrong.
Doug Diebold’s 3-month-old pet elk was shot by someone with no apparent motivation other than the ability to commit the act.
The elk was inside fenced private property.
The shooting occurred a day before hunting season began. And that was bow-hunting season to boot.
It appeared as if Tank would have to be euthanized because of the wound.
Luckily for Tank, that no longer appears to be the case.
But Tank never should have been shot.
The shooter has issues, even if you are willing to give all kinds of benefits of the doubt.
Green Country has had an honorable history of hunters and gatherers — people who lived off the land. There are plenty of people who respect that history during legal hunting seasons.
But this shooting was not about hunting for food or thinning a herd.
This was about the ability to pull a trigger on a defenseless animal.
Or it was breaking the law because it was possible.
There is no excuse for that.
