THE PEOPLE SPEAK — Not too late to stand up for historic buildings

I watch with dismay at the demolition of buildings downtown. I saw the same thing back in the early ’60s when they tore downtown Lawton up and called it progress. All for the sake of building a new mall. All the old buildings that were built in the 1800s and early 1900s are gone, just the memory of the beautiful architecture remains. A few of us still reminisce on a Facebook page called Lawton Pictures past and present. Even the original courthouse went by the wayside.

If this is progress, then I don't want any part of it. Our city history is very important and we don't need it sold for used brick. Stand up and tell them no more. The decision-makers have to be held accountable for their actions. Now before it’s too late.
