THE PEOPLE SPEAK – Forget Tea Party, we need American Party

There is a lot of stress in Washington over reaching an agreement about the reversal of the Affordable Care Act, and the gutting of Social Security and Medicare.

Over the years the Republicans have made changes in what they stand for, and what they believe. Many stand-pat Republicans refuse to admit the change and vote for that candidate no matter what. For their information here are a couple of former Republican president statements.

“Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear from that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Their number is negligible and they are stupid,” Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

“All contributions by corporations to any political committee or for any political purpose should be forbidden by law,” Republican President Theodore Roosevelt.

The current Republicans do whatever it takes to protect the extremely rich, even to make sure that they don’t pay their fair share of taxes. The huge disparity between the CEO pay and workers pay grows wilder every year. In 1982 the CEO’s were paid 42 times that of the average worker. Thirty years later it became 354 times greater.

One problem of the country’s huge deficit is that these big corporations hide their income in offshore accounts so as to not pay their fair share in taxes to keep the government operating. According to one report of the 100 largest companies, 82 are using offshore tax havens, which are holding nearly $1.2 trillion in these accounts, so as not to pay the taxes, and they are being protected by the current Republicans.

Tea Party? I prefer the American Party.
