THE PEOPLE SPEAK – Remember Veronica will be a teenager

Gov. Fallin, the Capobiancos, judges and government officials need to step back and make a reality check. Baby Veronica will one day be Teenager Veronica.

All teenagers have periods of conflict with their parents. Adopted children have an especially difficult time because they must deal with the hurt of knowing their parents were unwilling or unable to care for them. Regardless of the reason for separation, it is a pain that only an adopted child can understand.

How will the Capobiancos respond when Teenager Veronica says, “My dad would never treat me like this.” “My dad wouldn’t let this happen to me.” “Why did you take me away from my dad?” “Why did you put my dad in prison?” “There are thousands of children in Oklahoma and South Carolina that no one wants. My dad wanted me. Why didn’t you take one of the children that no one wants?” “My dad is a hero and while he was away making the world safe for us to live in, you stole me just because you have money.”

No matter how much the Capobiancos love and nurture Veronica, or how good a home they provide, she will end up hating them because they took her dad away. To her, dad will always be the martyr, and the Capobiancos evil abductors who imprisoned her and hurt her dad.

Can the Capobiancos give Veronica a happy ending? Has anyone considered Teenager Veronica?
