THE PEOPLE SPEAK – Jesus taught forgiveness

— Jesus told the Colorado District Attorney what to do, lock killers up in cells and throw the key away. D.A. George Brauchler should have read his Bible instead of listening to 60 people who lost relatives in James Holmes movie theater massacre of 12 people. Victim impact statements should have no bearing on any prosecution.

Others are calling for the blood of the killer who was willing to plea bargain for life in prison without parole if the death penalty was taken off the table. Putting Holmes to sleep with a lethal injection is too good for him. Life in prison will give him the torture and pain that come from years of confinement in a hell hole with no real sunlight, horrible food, inadequate medical care and dehumanizing treatment. Then, he can watch, like Chinese water torture as the drops drop by.

Of blood-thirsty executioners like Brauchler who says for Holmes “justice is death.” Jesus said “Father forgive them; for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34) and “whomever slayeth Cain, vengeance will be taken upon him seven fold” (Genesis 4:15).

Bryan Beard, whose best friend Alex Sullivan was killed in the attack, said “I hope I’m in the room when he dies.” Bryan could use some Bible reading too. “Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord,” (Deut. 32:35).
