QuikTrip good start for intersection

— Muskogee officials are betting on a “Field of Dreams” approach to developing one of the city’s key intersections.

Officials are hoping that if QuikTrip builds a convenience store at the southwest corner of Shawnee Bypass and U.S. 69, retailers will line up to fill the other three corners.

One retailer — the right retailer — will attract customers and other retailers alike.

Judging from the response to a Phoenix story online, there are plenty of potential customers waiting for the store to open.

The area around the intersection has seen steady growth for years.

An International House of Pancakes and three hotels have sprung up near the intersection.

But the actual intersection has been empty for decades.

At one time, the intersection was designated for a cloverleaf because of the potential of traffic.

Muskogee is lucky that cloverleaf was never developed.

That intersection appears to have the most potential for producing retail sales tax growth in the city.

It takes a push of one domino to make them all fall.

Oklahoma City officials say after Bass Pro Shop opened near downtown, the rest of Bricktown sprung up around it.

Hopefully, QuikTrip will be our Bass Pro Shop.

As other retailers see the number of customers at QuikTrip, they will realize the potential for their businesses to thrive.

It took a lot of cooperation between city and county officials to make QuikTrip a reality.

It’s a good bet that QuikTrip will create the boost for future economic development.
