The public debate about gay people continues: How/if they should fit into civil society. There are interesting opinions in this newspaper. Wonder how folks will react if gay marriage eventually comes to Oklahoma.
My friend Ruben, who debates everything on the planet, said as far as he’s concerned, we all have “equal rights” to marry anyone we want of the opposite sex. Problem solved. Ruben has three beautiful daughters. I asked ‘equal rights Ruben’ how many of his daughters he wanted to marry gay men? Guess what? Ruben doesn’t want any of his girls marrying gay guys. Apparently he would prefer if someone else’s daughters married them. There’s a surprise.
Sen. Rob Portman, loyal Republican from Ohio, came out in favor of marriage equality after learning his son Will was gay. This news sent shock waves among social conservatives. Chairman of the anti-gay Family Research Institute, Paul Cameron, an American psychologist and sex researcher called for Sen. Portman to “urge” his gay son “to marry a woman.” There’s some advice.
Al-Qaeda has a new video on the Internet about “gay marriage.” Apparently, they’re against it. No word yet on where they stand on “light bulbs.”
John Paulk, ex-gay poster boy made news. Ex-gay John and his ex-lesbian wife Anne, while working for Focus on the Family penned a book titled “Love Won Out: How God’s Love Helped Two People Leave Homosexuality and Find Each Other.” They actively promoted the false idea that “gay rights” were “special rights.” Hundreds of fearful Christian parents learned among other thing at their “Love Won Out Conferences” that the reason their child was gay was probably their fault or maybe because their child has been molested by a family member or friend. Ex-gay John is now ex-ex-gay John. He apologized for the pain he caused preaching that gays should/could become straight through prayer and counseling.
Uruguay, New Zealand, and France just approved marriage equality. Bless the French, hundreds of thousands for and against marched in the streets. The debate was divisive, bitter and bloody.
