THE PEOPLE SPEAK – Muskogee city workers should count blessings

— I cannot believe that the City Council wants everyone in Muskogee to pay a 30 percent increase in city utilities (water/sewer and trash collection) in order to give employees a pay increase and additional insurance benefits. I am currently unemployed and unable to find a job in Muskogee, so I really don’t want or care about a salary increase to city employees at my expense! This takes money for everyday living expenses and food off my family’s table.

I have another solution — why don’t the city leaders each take a pay cut and contribute their money to the pay increase and new benefits? Oh, I forgot, they’re the ones getting these increases so I guess that option is out. Or maybe city employees should count their blessings that they even have a job and benefits when so many people do not.
