Greetings Muskogee-area residents.
It has been a little over six months since I have moved to this wonderful community from Waxahachie, Texas, a city of 30,000 and growing.
I have met many neighbors, residents, business owners and dignitaries/civic leaders and am more than impressed. I have been invited to and participated in quite a few committees, meetings and civic organizations. I see the forward thinking of many and want to be a part of that, both personally and professionally.
I write to you wondering a couple of things. First, as publisher I want to thank and appreciate my team I joined here at the Muskogee Phoenix.
It takes everyone’s hard and dedicated work to provide you with the news and information you require every day. Thank you, team!!!!
With that said, how are we doing? I feel a town this size relies on its local newspaper to educate, inform and create dialogue. I want to improve the quality of life of our citizens, report on city government, make sure our children are receiving the best education possible and provide you with local products and services.
Second, and the real reason for my banter, SHOP LOCAL! How do we show support to our local businesses and “keep the money in Muskogee?”
I have discussed with a handful of auto dealership general managers that I would come up with an idea, from a new “Shop Local” logo and offering discounts, a rewards program or just creating more awareness. We can’t keep seeing businesses close their doors. The loss of tax revenues and jobs will certainly stall our community from growing.
Tax revenues support our basic needs of water, sewer, public safety, transportation, city leadership, etc. We rely and expect those services, right?
When I was a resident of “Hachie,” we would have given our right arms to have a mall, numerous auto dealerships and the amount of choices we have to dine and shop here in Muskogee.
So, let’s “Keep it in Muskogee” and watch what happens ... More businesses, more jobs, more choices and a better quality of life!
I look forward to meeting more of you and can be reached at email@example.com with your ideas and comments.
Thank you for supporting the Phoenix.
Sincerely and have a blessed day,
