Park name change shows good politics

— The City Council should be lauded for restoring Robison Park to its original name.

The decision, approved Tuesday night, came after months of discussion.

The park was renamed in 2012 to Ruby Park to honor Russell Ruby for his philanthropy. Development of the park began in 2009 with the help of funding from the Ruby family trust, the City of Muskogee Foundation, the state and the support of the Robison Park Community Association.

Mike Ruby wrote a letter on behalf of the trust and his family in support of the association’s “petition to restore the name of the park to Robison Park.”

The council’s decision proves it listens to the citizens of Muskogee. Even if it was a decision it wasn’t crazy about, it was passed unanimously and shows the council did what is best for the citizens who are affected.

Regardless of how the situation got to where it was, the resolution has come, and that’s great.
