THE PEOPLE SPEAK — Take politics out of justice system

— It is time to get politics out of the justice system. Recently I watched a man being sentenced to prison for one mistake. A man that is quite capable to continue contributing to society just like he has done his entire life. His sentence included prison time because he was a political football for someone trying to move up the political ladder.

Yet we have people destroying children’s lives every day that are never being put in prison. We have chosen to try to destroy a good man’s life because of politics. We must remove politics from our justice system. Let me give you some staggering facts. There are an estimated 10 million cases of child abuse every year. Only one-third of those ever get reported. Of the 3.3 million cases that do get reported, only 1 percent makes it to court. This is unacceptable.

Our efforts in the justice system must be cleared of political ambitions and reconcentrated on criminals who contribute nothing to society and continue to destroy peoples’ lives. The focus must be renewed to change these facts now!

But yet I have witnessed a man being put in prison who will never make the mistake again. He has already proven that by being ankle monitored for two years while waiting for his case to be heard. A man who goes out of his way to help children! When will we say enough is enough?
