Students win because of Foundation

The real winners of the Muskogee Education Foundation’s sixth annual “Battle of the Brains” trivia challenge weren’t even at the event.

The students were the big winners.

The Foundation will help many more students get a better educational experience than would have happened without the Foundation’s generosity and determination.

It’s an event that’s unlike any other in the Muskogee area. It’s a night of fun that benefits Muskogee Public Schools students.

The fact that the event has grown every year since its humble beginnings just goes to show how fun it is. We expect the event will continue to grow as even more and more people continue to learn of it.

Proceeds from the event, which included a silent dessert auction and a live auction on many other goods — go into an endowment, the interest of which is used to provide grants to teachers in the Muskogee area. The profit from this year’s event has not been finalized yet. The endowment allows 4 percent of the interest to be meted out each year.

That was $24,000 last year, and will continue to grow each year.

It’s great to see dedicated teachers receive assistance for ideas that many would have tried to fund themselves.

Great things can happen as a result of just a few good people’s efforts in a good cause.

Our community is lucky to have people such as those involved in the Education Foundation.

We applaud the foundation for its work.
