Keeping community in AIM

Action in Muskogee is staying true to its mission by seeking public comment for Phase 1 of its plan.

The AIM steering committee will hold a public forum on Nov. 12.

We encourage everyone who cares about Muskogee to attend this meeting or to learn what was proposed there.

The committee is looking for a project or projects that could have as big a splash in our community as the MAPS projects had in Oklahoma City.

Among the potential ideas the group is considering are:

• A new Martin Luther King Center.

• A new Muskogee Little Theatre.

• A destination dining and retail area.

• A feasibility study for a downtown convention center hotel.

All of these ideas have great merit. And there may be more ideas that come forward in the future.

That shows the initial idea behind AIM is working.

AIM was created as a community visioning process.

And it showed how powerful a community can be when it works as a group.

Hundreds of people attended meetings as AIM was launched.

That showed a commitment by our community for our community.

And now, as the process moves toward getting some concrete big ideas going, the community aspect is being continued.

The public receives the opportunity to be heard under AIM.

The public feels a greater ownership of any project if they feel their voices were heard.

That’s the beauty of AIM in the past and its commitment for our future.
