Rink boosts quality of life

Muskogee has an ice skating rink.

The rink, in Honor Heights Park, is made of synthetic ice and opened Thanksgiving Day.

The rink joins the annual Garden of Lights as an attraction to draw visitors to the park. It is near the plaza, outside the gift shop. Admission is $5 per person.

Synthetic ice is a plastic polymer sheet.

“Our ice rink will be non-temperature dependent. There is no refrigeration equipment,” said Rick Ewing, Park superintendent of Muskogee Parks and Recreation.

The rink is a good fit for the Garden of Lights and Honor Heights Park.

How often have you heard someone say, “There is nothing to do in Muskogee.”

Now there are more things to do here than before.

“It’s all about the quality of life, and this is just another way to elevate the quality of the city,” said Ewing.

Not only is ice skating something fun to do, it is also active. Muskogee has a brand new opportunity to move and motion is good for us.

“I think one of the things we strive for in Parks and Recreation is a healthy lifestyle as well as entertainment. It also allows people to have that special holiday time experience,” Ewing said.
