Selfless act touches many lives

Miranda Nicole Rice was far too young to die.

Miranda was 19 when she passed away from injuries suffered after a car struck her while she tried to cross a street in Oklahoma City.

She had three-quarters of her life to go.

And that life had so much promise.

She was a freshman at Oklahoma State University, studying forensic science on an academic scholarship she earned before graduating from Wagoner High School last spring.

She wanted to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, but also had discovered a special interest in film making.

When Miranda was 15 she told her grandmother why she chose to be an organ donor.

“That way,” she told her grandmother Wanda Ross Willhite, “if she didn’t live to be old, she would be able to contribute something to others.”

Miranda will live on through six other people in Oklahoma.

Willhite said Miranda’s heart, kidneys, liver, pancreas and one lung were harvested through Life Share at the OU Trauma Center.

Miranda’s selflessness in becoming an organ donor will lengthen six lives.

Miranda died much too young, but in that short time she touched many lives and will continue to touch countless more lives for years to come.
