Heroic deeds performed daily

During this Memorial Day recognition and the 70th anniversary of the Normandy Invasion in 1944, I was thinking about all those young men who hit that beach on that day. The paratroopers, pilots, sailors, and all who participated in that effort.

Then my thoughts turned to the Pacific Islands, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. I think these men and women were all heroes. I turned to the computer and typed “Heroes, Past and Present and found a listing of what other have listed as heroes. This is part of the listing I found: George Washington, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Babe Ruth, Joan of Arc, Amelia Earhart, Harriet Tubman, John Glenn, Charles Lindberg, Joe Louis, and Chief Sitting Bull. Not only in wars do we find heroes, but in all of life’s settings.

Heroic deeds are being performed every day by police, firemen, doctors, lawyers, classroom teachers, and administrators. I cite Dr. Keith Ballard, Superintendent of Tulsa Public Schools and State Representative Katie Henke, what is their legacy? They defend the indefensible. I know there are lots of bullies and greedy people out there, but I believe they are far outnumbered because mankind is basically good, and only want justice and fair play for everybody.
