Cowboys’ Smart leads U19 squad

PRAGUE, Czech Republic – Oklahoma State sophomore Marcus Smart led all scorers, propelling the USA Basketball men’s U19 basketball team to a 109-67 win over Canada 109-67 on Friday in the semifinals of the FIBA U19 World Championships.

Seven different Americans reached double figures, including Smart’s game-high 14. The Cowboys’ sophomore scored six points in a 2-1/2 minute period during the third quarter, including a basket at the 2:55 mark that gave the United States a 31-point lead. He also recorded three steals, one rebound and an assist. Smart’s 19 steals lead the tournament are tied for the fifth-most by an American in the World Championships, matching Daniel Brown’s 19 in 2003.
