ORU (W) 89, USAO 68 – A vastly different Oral Roberts University roster looked perfectly in tune on Friday afternoon as the Golden Eagles routed the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Friday. Kaylan Mayberry led the Golden Eagles with 18 points and six assists.
Mayberry was one of four Golden Eagles to finish in double-figures. Christian Key canned five three-pointers and scored 15 points, Sarah Shelton pumped in 14 and Muskogee ex Alexus Wilson finished with 12 points in her first collegiate game. As a team, ORU shot 40.9 percent from the floor.
WTAMU 64, NSU (W) 55 – The Northeastern State women’s basketball team lost its season opener to West Texas A&M on Friday.
The RiverHawkswere led by junior guard Fontana Tate’s career-high 18 points, while the Lady Buffs had three score in double figures.
OSU (W) 83, LAMAR 56 — Guards Brittney Martin and Tiffany Bias teamed to give No. 21 Oklahoma State a victory over Lamar on Friday in the season opener for both schools.
Martin scored 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Bias, considered one of the nation’s top point guards, added 14 points with seven assists and seven steals. Liz Donohoe added 10 points.
OU (W) 78, STETSON 60 – Aaryn Ellenberg scored 24 points and hit four consecutive 3-pointers through a 10-minute, second-half run that helped No. 11 Oklahoma defeat Stetson 78-60 in a Preseason WNIT First Round contest.
Ellenberg was 8-of-15 from the field, including a 6-of-11 mark from behind the arc on an otherwise sluggish night for OU's long-range shooters.
TSU 88, TU 80 (W) – The Tulsa women’s basketball team dropped a decision to Texas Southern in the season opener on Friday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Loren McDaniel posted her sixth career double-double as she netted 14 points and pulled down a team-leading 10 rebounds. Ashley Clark scored a team-high 19 points, just one shy of her career-best set against SMU last season, while Kadan Brady came in off the bench and hit four three-pointers for 12 points.
SW CHRISTIAN 108, BACONE (M) 105 3OT – A thrilling game ended in disappointment for the Bacone Warriors as they fell to Southwestern Christian on Friday.
Geo Brewer led Bacone with 26 points and Derrick Thomas added 17; Christian Smith and Jeremy McClain both recorded double doubles with 15 and 14 and 14 and 14 respectively.
CONNORS 89, MID-AMERICA CHRISTIAN 73 – Connors State, behind the double-figure scoring of Willie Atwood, Corlbe Erin, Kayshaune Spencer and Ronnie Boyce, rolled past Mid-America College JV Friday night to remain unbeaten at 4-0.
Atwood led the Cowboys scoring attack with 20 points followed by Ervin’s 17 points. Spencer scored 13 points and Boyce added 11 points in the victory.
Connors trailed Mid-America by a single point midway the first half, before taking the lead for good. Cowboys held a 40-30 advantage at the intermission.
OU (M) 82, BAMA 73 – Buddy Hield scored 19 points as Oklahoma pulled away in the final six minutes to defeat Alabama on Friday at American Airlines Center.
Ryan Spangler had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Sooners and Cameron Clark added 14.
OSU (M) 117, MVSU 62 – Le’Bryan Nash had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead five scorers in double figures for Oklahoma State as the Cowboys opened their season with a rout of Mississippi Valley State on Friday night.
Phil Forte had 22 points, shooting 4 of 7 from 3-point range, and OSU went 12 of 21 from beyond the arc. Markel Brown and Brian Williams scored 14 apiece. Marcus Smart, the preseason Big 12 player of the year, had 11.
