OSU’s Smart

receives honor




STILLWATER — Marcus Smart, a freshman on the 17th-ranked Oklahoma State men's basketball team, has been named a second-team All-American by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. He is just the sixth Cowboy to be named an All-American by the USBWA.

Smart, who is from Flower Mound, Texas, was joined on the second team by Kansas' Ben McLemore and Jeff Withey, Mason Plumlee of Duke and Indiana's Cody Zeller. The first team consisted of Michigan's Trey Burke, Doug McDermott of Creighton, Indiana's Victor Oladipo, Kelly Olynyk of Gonzaga and Georgtown's Otto Porter.

The other OSU players who have been honored by the USBWA are James Anderson (second team in 2010), John Lucas (second team in 2004), Tony Allen (third team in 2004), Bryant Reeves (honorable mention in 1994) and Byron Houston (second team in 1992).



Cowboy gets weekly award





IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State outfielder Zach Fish is the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week for games played March 11-17, it was announced by the league office today.

Fish helped OSU to a perfect 5-0 week as he led an offense that produced 54 runs in its five outings. The sophomore slugger turned in a .600 batting average (12-for-20) with a team-leading eight RBIs, and he hit safely in all five games to extend a season-long hitting streak to 13 games. The Cowboys’ right fielder had multiple hits in four of the five games, including tying a career high with three hits in three of those contests, and also had three two-RBI games. He was 7-for-11 (.636) with runners in scoring position.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Thunder has recalled guard Jeremy Lamb, guard DeAndre Liggins and center Daniel Orton from the Tulsa 66ers of the NBA Development League on Monday.

Lamb has seen started 20 games, averaging 21.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.2 steals in 32.6 minutes per game.

Liggins has 13 starts , averaging 10.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.7 steals in 34.2 minutes per game.

Orton has 24 starts with and averaging 12.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.3 blocks in 28.5 minutes per game.

Korey Keith slugged two two-run home runs as the Connors State Cowboys beat Bacone’s junior varsity  14-1 as part of a doubleheader sweep at Biff Thompson Field on Monday. The Cowboys won the first game, 12-2.

Keith also doubled in the first game.

In that first game, Yariel Gonzalez singled three times and drove in two runs, while Christian Perez double and Phil Diedrick and Eric Kirkpatrick singled twice.

In the nightcap, Perez doubled twice, while Caleb Simpson singled twice and Jake Borrego doubled and singled.

Colton Strother (2-0) and Caleb Banks (3-0) were the winning pitchers.



Cowgirls drop

two games




GALVESTON, Texas—Connors State fell twice to Galveston Community College 6-0 and 5-2 in non-conference softball play Monday.

The twin loss drops the Cowgirls to 13-19 for the season going into today’s play with Lamar State at 2 p.m.

Jessica Christian took the loss inside the circle in the opener and Amanda O’Neal in the night cap.
