HUSTON-TILLOTSON 73, BACONE 71 – A back and forth affair went the way of the Huston-Tillotson Rams as they held off the Bacone Warriors 73-71 Saturday night in Red River conference action.

For the game the Warriors connected on 48 percent (28 of 58) from the field, hit 11 of 18 free throws but committed 25 turnovers; the Rams hit 35 percent (25 of 70) while knocking down 17 of 26 free throws.

Kwame Bates led Bacone in scoring with a season-high 22 points, Derrick Thomas finished with 12.

Bacone (2-12, 0-8) faces Our Lady of the Lake on Monday night in San Antonio, Texas.

SW BAPTIST 68, NSU 60 – The Northeastern State men’s basketball team fell to Southwest Baptist on Saturday in Bolivar, Mo..

The RiverHawks (10-4, 3-3 MIAA) dropped their third-straight decision, while the Bearcats (5-9, 3-3 MIAA) won their third in a row.

Junior Bryton Hobbs and sophomore Landon DeMasters both led NSU with 16 points while senior Ethan Anderson added 12.

ARKANSAS 56, VANDERBILT 33 – Marshawn Powell scored 17 points and BJ Young added 14 as Arkansas pulled away for a win over Vanderbilt.

Powell, who was held scoreless in a loss at Texas A&M on Wednesday, scored the first eight points for the Razorbacks (10-5, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) on Saturday and added 6 rebounds and 6 steals.

Young added 12 of his 14 points in the second half as Arkansas bounced back from a season-worst 51-point effort in an 18-point loss against the Aggies.

Sheldon Jeter had 8 points to lead the Commodores (6-8, 0-2), who matched their season low for points and narrowly avoided setting the school mark for scoring futility. Vanderbilt committed a season-worst 26 turnovers, leading to 23 points for the Razorbacks.

TULSA 64, RICE 51 – Tulsa outscored the Rice Owls by 20 points in the second half to capture a Conference USA victory on Saturday.

The Golden Hurricane improved to 10-7 on the season and 2-1 in C-USA play while the Owls dropped to 3-12 and 0-2.

Freshman Shaquille Harrison scored 12 of his game-high 14 points in the second half while also leading the Hurricane with eight rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Junior Pat Swilling, Jr. finished the game with 12 points and four rebounds, while senior Kauri Black had 10 points and six rebounds.
