Area college baseball and softball roundup

Bacone takes DH from Bethany

The Bacone Warriors (4-3) dodged the raindrops long enough to sweep a doubleheader from Bethany, 10-6 and 10-2.

In Game one, Ricardo Barbosa was 2-for-2 with four RBIs while Tony Mendez was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Kyle Pietryga was 1-for-4 with three RBIs

Game two saw Mendez lead the way, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Anthony Seabolt was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI while Pietryga was 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBIs.

Ricketts goes back to back

TEMPE, Ariz. – After opening the season with a no-hitter against Stanford on Friday, one might have wondered what senior pitcher Keilani Ricketts would do for an encore. How about another no-hitter.

Ricketts threw her second no-hitter in as many games on Saturday as the Oklahoma softball team shut down Oregon, 12-0, in five innings at the Kajikawa Classic.

In earning career win No. 100, the senior lefty from San Jose, Calif., allowed just two baserunners against the Ducks on a walk and error. Of her 15 outs in the game, 10 came via strike out.

Ricketts has struck out 24 in 12 innings of work. She now has three career no-hitters, becoming the fifth pitcher in OU history to reach that figure.

She also joins Lauren Eckermann as the only Sooners to throw no-hitters on consecutive days. Eckermann accomplished the feat on March 3-4, 2007 against Temple and Wichita State, respectively.

In OU’s second game of the day, a four-run first inning was all the support the Oklahoma pitching staff needed in Saturday afternoon's 11-1, five-inning win over New Mexico.

Senior Michelle Gascoigne, freshman Taylor Dewbery and sophomore Georgia Casey combined to give up just three hits and one run while recording 10 strikeouts for Oklahoma (4-0) against the Lobos (0-5).
