OU softball postponed

NORMAN – Game one of the NCAA softball Super Regional between No. 1 Oklahoma and Texas A&M on Thursday was postponed because of unplayable conditions.

The game was originally set to start at 6 p.m. at Marita Hynes Field but was moved to 7 p.m. After attempts to dry the field, officials decided to postpone the game to 6 p.m. today with Saturday’s game times to be determined.

ORU remains perfect at SLC baseball tourney

SUGARLAND, Texas – Oral Roberts got a strong outing from starting pitcher Drew Bowen and backed him up on offense in getting past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 6-1 Thursday to move within one win of playing for its first Southland Conference Tournament championship in its first season in the league.

Bowen (4-3) kept Islander batters at bay until giving up his first hit in the seventh inning. A&M-Corpus Christi (33-23) turned a lead-off single by Cody Stephens into its first run of the game thanks to a single up the middle by Brad Porras.

By the time the Islanders scored, the Golden Eagles (25-30) already had their opposition down 4-0. ORU scored three runs in the third inning getting RBIs from Brandon Healy, Logan Domenico and Jose Trevino. They scratched another run across the plate in the sixth on a misplayed grounder to short off the bat of Graham McIntyre.

Hogs moves to 2-0 at SEC baseball tournament

HOOVER, Ala. – Arkansas scored the go-ahead run on a squeeze bunt by Tyler Spoon in the eighth inning and tacked on two more insurance runs in the ninth to beat LSU 4-1 at the Southeastern Conference tournament on Thursday.

Arkansas right-hander Ryne Stanek (9-2) earned the win, giving up just one unearned run on six hits over eight innings. LSU’s Aaron Nola was nearly as good, giving up one run in seven innings.

Colby Suggs threw a scoreless ninth inning for his 12th save of the season.

Arkansas (37-19) outhit LSU (49-9) 12-6. The Razorbacks were led by Matt Vinson and Spoon, who each had three hits.

LSU reliever Joey Bourgeois (3-2) took the loss. The Tigers didn’t have any extra-base hits off the Razorbacks’ pitching staff, which came into the game with the lowest ERA in the country.
